About the High School Language Arts Position

Teaching High School Language Arts to classes where a majority of the students whose heart language is not English can seem daunting. Teaching English at SCCLC, whether it is World Lit, Public Speaking, Composition, American Lit, or British Lit, is both stretching and fulfilling. Our students’ English comprehension, communication, and critical thinking skills better equip them to be society transformers and walk in the manner to which they have been called. Would you be part of that learning process by teaching HS Language Arts at SCCLC? Position Start Date August 2017

About Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center

The Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center (SCCLC) is an ACSI-accredited Christian school located in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. A ministry of South America Mission, the Learning Center develops students grounded academically and spiritually with a vision for impacting the world. Our core philosophy can be summed up as “Redeemed Lives, Quality Education, Transformed Society.” Graduates receive both international and local diplomas in preparation for global engagement. The SCCLC’s high standards of academic excellence, emphasis on spiritual formation, and English-speaking environment combine to attract students from families with influence in business and politics as well as in local churches. This ability to reach students and their families for Christ, from multiple segments of Bolivian society, makes the SCCLC a strategic platform for transformation at the individual, family, community, and national levels.

  • Country Summary (from the World Factbook)
Bolivia, named after independence fighter Simon BOLIVAR, broke away from Spanish rule in 1825; much of its subsequent history has consisted of a series of nearly 200 coups and countercoups. Democratic civilian rule was established in 1982, but leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social unrest, and illegal drug production. ++ In December 2005, Bolivians elected Movement Toward Socialism leader Evo MORALES president - by the widest margin of any leader since the restoration of civilian rule in 1982 - after he ran on a promise to change the country's traditional political class and empower the nation's poor, indigenous majority. In December 2009 and October 2014, President MORALES easily won reelection. His party maintained control of the legislative branch of the government, which has allowed him to continue his process of change. In October 2011, the country held its first judicial elections to select judges for the four highest courts. MORALES has publicly described the elected judiciary as a failed experiment that has not resolved judicial backlogs or extended pre-trial detention. He has called for a public referendum on the judicial system.
