About the Boarding Home Parents Position
This position will be for a one-year term to cover for current dorm parents on Home Assignment for 2019/20
Summary of the job:
Boarding Home Parents are to provide parental care for students living in an FA boarding home, and to supervise all matters for the ministry/operation of the boarding facility. Usually 15–20 students live in one home. The majority of these students will be grade 9 through 12, while a smaller number of grade 7 and 8 students may also be enrolled.
Essential duties of the job:
Boarding Home Parents (BHPs) work as a team with other boarding home parent couples. The Boarding Administrator(s) gives this team guidance and direction.
Two major components of a BHP are:
Parental Caregiver: The main responsibility of a boarding home parent is to provide parental care for the students living in their home. There is a need for BHPs to provide spiritual, physical, emotional, moral, and academic care for the students living with them. From practical help with schoolwork, to providing nutritious meals, to taking students to the doctor, to encouraging the student by attending extra curricular activities such as a concert or sporting event; BHPs have a unique opportunity to build into the lives of the students. BHPs are expected to lead devotional times and need to be comfortable discussing spiritual matters with young people.
