About the Special Education Coordinator Position

Role Specific Responsibilities:
– Oversees the learning support department
– Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
– Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
– Develop Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for each student with needs
– Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
– Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
– Implement ILPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress
– Update ILPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals
– Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrators
– Lead, supervise, evaluate and mentor the learning support team in their given roles (para-professionals, SPED teachers, ELL teachers)
– Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation
– Lead the Response to Intervention Team (RTI)
– Collaborate on training for teachers in professional development settings
– Coordinate with subcontractors for outside testing purposes
– Assess students with special need during the admission process, and provide a feedback to the admission committee.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
– Diagnostician credentials or other testing credentials
– Knowledge or willingness to learn of US Federal law around ADA, FAPE and Civil Rights of persons with disabilities
